Your Words Are Seeds: What You Speak, You Grow
May 11, 2025
Have you ever said something in the heat of the moment and immediately regretted it? You’re not alone. We’ve all felt that wave of regret after lashing out or letting frustration spill over. But here’s the truth: what comes out of your mouth isn’t just a reaction—it’s a reflection of what’s going on in your heart.
In Matthew 12:34, Jesus says, “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” He’s not just calling us out—He’s inviting us in. Into reflection. Into growth. Into healing.
Think of your heart as a cup of coffee. When someone bumps into you, whatever’s inside spills out. That bump—stress, frustration, conflict—just reveals what was already brewing. So if anger, judgment, or jealousy keep slipping out, maybe it’s not just the world around you. Maybe it’s what you’re filled with.
And guess what? You don’t have to stay that way. The good news is, you get to choose what overflows. Your words are seeds—and they’re shaping your relationships, your atmosphere, even your destiny. Are you planting weeds or a flourishing garden of peace, joy, and blessing?
The shift starts with awareness. Take a moment today and tune in to what you’re saying—to yourself, to others, even in your thoughts. Then ask: What’s going on in here? Is it fear? Exhaustion? A lack of direction?
God never asks for perfection. He asks for intention.
Here’s a 3-step shift to start:
- Acknowledge it: Pause when you feel those reactive words coming up. Recognize the emotion without shame.
- Reflect on it: Dig deeper. What’s underneath the frustration? What’s driving the reaction?
- Pray and replace it: Ask God to help transform the root. Try: “God, help me release this. Replace it with peace and wisdom.”
