Why We Push Away Jesus — And What Happens When We Don’t
Jun 22, 2025
Have you ever felt drawn to peace, purpose, and freedom—but simultaneously resisted it when someone speaks His name? We want the fruit of Jesus’s teachings—love, joy, forgiveness—but not the One who offers them.
Today, we unpack this resistance and offer a wake‑up call: maybe Jesus isn’t the problem—you are resisting truth.
1. We Want the Fruit, Not the Farmer 🍎
We love kindness, humility, generosity—until we realize where it comes from. The problem isn’t Jesus. It’s conviction. We want the outcomes, but not His authority. John 7:7 says the world resists Jesus because He exposes darkness. If we’re uncomfortable, maybe the issue lies within.
2. Resistance Often Hides in Our Pain
“I’d follow Jesus if His world wasn’t broken,” you might think. But our misgivings come from free will—not God’s lack of love. He didn’t force perfection. Instead, He invites us to spiritual healing. You can be angry, wounded, or confused—and still engage Him. He’s big enough for all of that.
3. We Choose Comfort Over Freedom
This is the crux: we love our disorder. We’d rather scroll and justify than receive the freedom He's offering. But John 8:32 says, “The truth will set you free.” Not because it’s easy—but because it’s freeing. It cuts through numbness and settles restless souls.
4. Try Truth With No Pressure
What if Jesus’s teachings are worth following—even before you’re sure about Him? They’ve changed lives—healed addictions, broken depression, restored marriages. You don’t need to become religious overnight. Just say, “Jesus, I’m interested. Show me.”
- Replace one motivational post with a verse.
- Forgive someone small today.
- Do a simple act of kindness with no payoff.
If Jesus is who He says He is, your soul will take notice.
5. Freedom Lives in a Test‑Drive
Resisting Jesus costs dearly: ongoing unrest, identity confusion, shallow relationships. But saying “yes” to Him? It unlocks peace, purpose, joy. No blanket commitment—just an open heart.

The Invitation
If you’re still skeptical, that’s okay. Doubt is part of the journey—and Jesus invites it. He doesn’t demand perfection. He asks for curiosity.
Resisting Him isn’t protecting your peace—it’s locking it out. Why not stop fighting? Lean in. Ask questions. Find out for yourself. The truth doesn’t back down. It stands firm—and sets you free.
