Uncovering Your Purpose: How God Uses Your Passion to Guide You

May 18, 2025

"How do I find my purpose?" It’s one of the most common — and most paralyzing — questions we ask ourselves. For many, it feels like purpose is a prize hiding behind the next big achievement or a perfect job title. But what if I told you your purpose isn’t missing… it’s unfolding?

The world wants you to believe that you have to invent your purpose or that if you make one wrong move, you’ll miss it. But biblically, that’s not true. You don’t create your purpose — you uncover it. It’s already wired into you by God.

Let me explain.

God has placed breadcrumbs all along your path. These clues show up in your natural gifts, in what energizes you, in the people who show up in your life, and even in the pain you've endured. Romans 8:28 reminds us, “All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” That means even your hardships are preparing you for something more.

The key is paying attention. Start by asking simple, reflective questions:

  • What do I love doing without being asked?
  • What comes naturally to me?
  • What have I walked through that now helps me understand others better?
  • Who am I uniquely positioned to help?

These are your breadcrumb trails. They may not look like a big revelation at first — and that’s the point. Just like building a puzzle without the box lid, your purpose is revealed one piece at a time. Proverbs 25:2 tells us, “It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them.” God wants you to seek it out, and He promises to reveal it in His timing.

And here’s the clincher — purpose is not just about you. True purpose always leads to impact. If your dream only serves yourself, it’s incomplete. Matthew 23:11 says, “The greatest among you must be a servant.” Your purpose is about using what God placed inside you to lift someone else up. That’s where joy lives. That’s where peace resides.

So if you’re sitting in a season that doesn’t make sense yet — a job that feels off, a dream that’s delayed — don’t panic. Trust that this is part of your unfolding. What looks like a detour may just be the breadcrumb that leads to your breakthrough.

Here's your next step: Reflect on what’s in your hands. Write it down. Pray about it. And most importantly — start moving. Clarity comes in motion, not in stillness.

Your purpose is not lost. It’s alive inside of you, waiting to be discovered — one breadcrumb at a time.
