Keep Your Saltiness: How to Stop Blending In and Start Standing Out

Jun 09, 2025

Are you starting to feel like you've lost your edge—your spark, your boldness, your flavor? You’re not alone. The world has a sneaky way of dulling us down, one compromise at a time. But Jesus said something bold in Mark 9:50: “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?”

You were made to season the atmosphere, to stand out, and to reflect the presence of God—not blend into blandness.

Salt was valuable in Jesus’s time. It preserved, purified, and enhanced. So when He said, “Be salty,” He meant, be the one who brings truth to confusion, peace to chaos, and light to darkness. But what happens when the culture around us slowly numbs our soul?

We become desensitized—to gossip, materialism, toxicity, and immorality. What once made us cringe, now feels normal. What we once resisted, we now scroll past without a second thought. And over time, we stop transforming the world and start being transformed by it.

Here are three ways to reclaim your saltiness and step back into your power:

  1. Guard Your Heart
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” That means being mindful of what you consume—what you watch, listen to, and engage with. Ask yourself, “Is this sharpening me or dulling me?” The wrong inputs will slowly erode your purpose.
  2. Filter Your Feed
Your social media feed is shaping your soul more than you think. If your scroll time is stirring up comparison, insecurity, or anger—unfollow. Create an algorithm that feeds your faith, not your fear. One verse a day can reset your mindset in a way no viral trend ever could.
  3. Go Back to the Source
Matthew 5:13 reminds us, “You are the salt of the earth.” But that saltiness comes from staying close to God. If you’ve lost your fire, go back to the source. Prayer, scripture, and intentional time with God will restore what the world has tried to steal.

You don’t have to be sarcastic to be salty. You don’t have to be judgmental to be bold. Staying salty in a spiritual sense means living intentionally, speaking life, and walking in truth—even when it’s unpopular.

So, are you seasoning the world—or soaking in it? Today is your reminder that you were not made to match the room. You were made to change it.
