Almost Truths: 5 Feel-Good Lies That Quietly Wreck Our Faith
Jul 01, 2025
Not every lie shouts. Some whisper just enough truth to sound good—while slowly derailing your faith.
We live in a time when culture wraps spiritual distortion in feel-good slogans: “Follow your heart.” “Love is love.” “Speak your truth.” They sound positive. Inclusive. Empowering. But when we hold them up to Scripture, something doesn’t quite align.
Here are five of the most popular cultural mantras—and why they might be doing more harm than good.
- Follow Your Heart
It sounds romantic, doesn’t it? But Jeremiah 17:9 calls the heart “deceitful above all things.” Our feelings aren’t always trustworthy. Emotions can guide us into purpose—but only when aligned with God’s truth. Instead of following your heart, follow God… and bring your heart with you. - Speak Your Truth
While it's important to speak up, there’s a major flaw here. Jesus didn’t say He was a truth—He said, “I am the way, thetruth, and the life” (John 14:6). If everyone has their own truth, then truth becomes meaningless. Opinions matter—but truth is unchanging. - Love Is Love
This one feels untouchable—but we have to talk about it. Real love doesn’t erase boundaries. It rejoices in truth (1 Corinthians 13:6). When “love” just means “let people do whatever they want,” we’re no longer loving—we’re enabling. Biblical love calls people higher, not just keeps them comfortable. - You Are Enough
You are worthy. You are valuable. But without God? You’re missing something essential. Self-help says “you are enough” over and over—but if it were true, why keep repeating it? You are enough with Him because He fills what you can’t. That’s the real freedom. - Manifest Your Dream
Vision boards. Affirmations. “High-vibe energy.” Manifestation culture is everywhere. But Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us to trust in the Lord and lean not on our own understanding. Dream big—but surrender those dreams to the One who knows you best.
Now for the truth that might get uncomfortable…
The Rainbow Isn’t a Brand—It’s a Promise
Genesis 9:13 says the rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant—a symbol of mercy, not marketing. Somewhere along the way, culture rebranded it, and many believers stayed silent. Reclaiming the rainbow isn’t about judgment—it’s about remembering God’s promises.
Speaking up doesn’t have to mean shouting. It can begin with gently offering truth in a world full of noise. It’s not about winning arguments—it’s about living free.
Real love tells the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
It doesn’t leave you in the mess. It says: You were made for more than this.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
So let’s stop blending in. Let’s stand up—not with rage, but with love.
Because you can reclaim truth without losing grace. And that’s where the real freedom begins.
